DESCRIPTION
The Laboratory of Neurobiology studies changes in the central nervous system and has developed new models of chronic pain compatible with the new standards of current bioethics. Research is always focused on the development of new therapies to alleviate patients with chronic pain.
Some of the contributions of the Laboratory include the novel description of the Pannexin-1 channel as critical for the perception of chronic pain; and the demonstration that the BDNF neurotransmitter is one of the factors that initiates neural changes that generate chronic pain. Regarding treatments, our research team has developed and patented various polymeric nanoparticles charged with bioactive molecules capable of inhibiting pain perception for several days with a single application.
