Faculty of Chemistry and Biology / Department of Chemistry of Materials

The Laboratory of Molecular Materials and Molecular Magnetism (LM 4) specializes in the design and synthesis of a wide range of inorganic molecular and nanostructured materials with diverse applications. The Laboratory’s research comprises study of the magnetic properties of mixed-valence polyoxovanadate molecular systems that combine lanthanoid ions with mixed-valence polyoxovanadate through coordinating organic fragments, to understand the interaction between polyoxovanadate electrons and lanthanoid ions. Likewise, the photophysical properties of these complexes are researched.
The laboratory conducts research on the photodegradation of organic contaminants using semiconductor oxides from the transition metals and diverse composites derived from these materials. In collaboration with other research groups, composite based on carbonaceous nanostructures and transition metals are explored for applications like biosensors. This research line comprises the synthesis of transition metal and boronic group complexes to facilitate the assembly of molecules, through joint work with the biosensor group.
