The main objective of the research conducted in the laboratory is to understand the mechanisms involved in the interaction between bacterial pathogens and human hosts at the cellular and molecular levels. To address these topics, the microorganism Campylobacter spp, a facultative intracellular pathogen widely known as a common culprit of gastrointestinal symptoms of bacterial origin in the world, is currently being used as a model. In addition, genomic epidemiology studies are being conducted to elucidate the frequency and distribution of the different Campylobacter spp strains present in Chile.
