Brenda Modak, investigadora y acad\u00e9mica de la Facultad de Qu\u00edmica y Biolog\u00eda, lider\u00f3 el equipo de investigaci\u00f3n que cre\u00f3 una vacuna para combatir la bacteria <\/b><b><i>P. salmonis, <\/i><\/b><b>utilizando extractos de dos plantas nativas de la Regi\u00f3n de Atacama. En la actualidad, esta tecnolog\u00eda se encuentra patentada en Chile, cuya tramitaci\u00f3n fue apoyada por la Direcci\u00f3n de Gesti\u00f3n Tecnol\u00f3gica de la VRIIC.<\/b><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-40291321\" data-id=\"40291321\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-42c9bcea elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"42c9bcea\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En las \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas, Chile ha logrado convertirse en el <strong>cuarto pa\u00eds exportador de productos del mar<\/strong> en el mundo.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dichas exportaciones bordean los\u00a0 US$ 5.900 millones, seg\u00fan lo revela el reporte \u201cEstadio Mundial de la Pesca y Acuicultura 2022\u201d de la Organizaci\u00f3n de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentaci\u00f3n y la Agricultura (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/3\/cc0461es\/online\/sofia\/2022\/trade-of-aquatic-products.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FAO<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En este impulso que ha tenido la industria, el salm\u00f3n se ha convertido en uno de los productos acu\u00edcolas que m\u00e1s se comercializa a nivel mundial, ubicando a nuestro pa\u00eds como el segundo mayor productor, despu\u00e9s de Noruega.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pese al \u00e9xito de la industria salmonera chilena en el mercado internacional y los millones de d\u00f3lares que cada a\u00f1o reportan las exportaciones, tambi\u00e9n hay otros desaf\u00edos que los productores requieren resolver con urgencia como son las condiciones de los sistemas de cultivos de las pisciculturas. Ejemplo de ello, es el constante estr\u00e9s al cual son sometidos los peces, ya sea por manipulaci\u00f3n, transporte y variables ambientales, entre otros.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Todos estos factores inciden en la propagaci\u00f3n de las enfermedades infecciosas que afectan el manejo y la sobrevivencia de los salmones, siendo una de las m\u00e1s peligrosas la <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Septicemia rickettsial salmon\u00eddea<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (SRS). Esta es causada por la bacteria <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Piscirickettsia salmonis <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, responsable de la<strong> mortalidad de m\u00e1s de 50%<\/strong> de la poblaci\u00f3n de esta especie.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Para dar soluci\u00f3n a esta problem\u00e1tica, un equipo de investigaci\u00f3n de la USACH, liderado por la <strong>Dra. Brenda Modak<\/strong>, investigadora y acad\u00e9mica de la Facultad de Qu\u00edmica y Biolog\u00eda, cre\u00f3 una vacuna para poder prevenir y controlar la bacteria que causa la enfermedad.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Para ello, se desarroll\u00f3 una composici\u00f3n inmunoestimulante para organismos acu\u00e1ticos que comprende microbacterias de <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">P. salmonis<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> conjugado con derivados terp\u00e9nicos de exudados resinosos de la especie vegetal <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heliotropium filifoliumun<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> o un derivado que se obtiene naturalmente de <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heliotropium huascoense<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, adem\u00e1s\u00a0 de un m\u00e9todo y uso para inmunizar dichos organismos acu\u00e1ticos contra una infecci\u00f3n.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Al respecto, la Dra. Brenda Modak comenta<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cque a trav\u00e9s del uso de la vacuna buscamos potenciar la respuesta inmune en los salmones, no s\u00f3lo administrando la dosis para combatir <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">el pat\u00f3geno <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Piscirickettsia salmonis<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> entre especies enfermas, sino tambi\u00e9n prevenir la infecci\u00f3n, aplicando la vacuna en peces sanos\u201d.<\/span><\/i><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Otro aspecto que destaca la investigadora, es el uso de las especies <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heliotropium filifoliumun<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> y <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heliotropium huascoense <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">como parte de la formulaci\u00f3n de la vacuna. Ambas plantas son end\u00e9micas de la Regi\u00f3n de Atacama, que se caracterizan por generar una resina que las envuelve ante las condiciones ambientales adversas que tiene este territorio. Dichas resinas sirvieron para la obtenci\u00f3n del compuesto natural que tiene la inyecci\u00f3n, por lo cual tras su utilizaci\u00f3n <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cno contamina las aguas marina, como ocurre cuando se ocupan productos sint\u00e9ticos\u201d, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">expresa.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Respecto a los beneficios que busca traer la invenci\u00f3n para la industria salmonera, est\u00e1 una mejora en los est\u00e1ndares de sanidad, manejo y crianza en los cultivos de peces.
