Karen Manqui\u00e1n y la Dra. Mar\u00eda Ang\u00e9lica Rubio, crearon una tecnolog\u00eda m\u00e1s sostenible y econ\u00f3mica que las tradicionales para eliminar los metales pesados en\u00a0 residuos l\u00edquidos. La solicitud de patente est\u00e1 en tr\u00e1mite, con el apoyo de la Direcci\u00f3n de Gesti\u00f3n Tecnol\u00f3gica de la Vriic.<\/b><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7fe5894e elementor-drop-cap-yes elementor-drop-cap-view-default elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7fe5894e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-settings=\"{&quot;drop_cap&quot;:&quot;yes&quot;}\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"field field-name-post-date field-type-ds field-label-hidden\"><div class=\"field-items\"><div class=\"field-item even\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En el desarrollo de sus actividades productivas, la miner\u00eda, la metalurgia y otras <\/span><b>industrias afines generan diariamente grandes vol\u00famenes de aguas residuales.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dichos l\u00edquidos poseen altas concentraciones de metales pesados y otros contaminantes, los cuales <\/span><b>pueden tener efectos nocivos<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> al entrar en contacto con los suelos, el medioambiente y la salud en comunidades cercanas a las zonas industriales.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Por lo mismo, <\/span><b>resulta crucial tratar estas aguas contaminadas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Entre las soluciones que se est\u00e1n aplicando para su depuraci\u00f3n, se encuentran el uso de resinas de intercambio i\u00f3nico, la precipitaci\u00f3n y la \u00f3smosis inversa, entre otros m\u00e1s. Sin embargo, dichos procesos resultan muy costosos y con un alto nivel de toxicidad, por lo cual se est\u00e1 impulsando la b\u00fasqueda de nuevos materiales adsorbentes, que sean m\u00e1s efectivos, econ\u00f3micos y menos t\u00f3xicos.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>Para abordar esta problem\u00e1tica, un equipo de investigaci\u00f3n de la <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.quimicaybiologia.usach.cl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Facultad de Qu\u00edmica y Biolog\u00eda<\/b><\/a><b> de la Usach, integrado por la Dra. Karen Manqui\u00e1n C., la Dra. Mar\u00eda Ang\u00e9lica Rubio C. y el Dr. Nicol\u00e1s Arancibia M., trabajaron en el desarrollo de un material filtrante de \u00f3xidos de hierro para la eliminaci\u00f3n de metales pesados en aguas residuales a nivel industrial.<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Al respecto, la investigadora y acad\u00e9mica, Dra. Karen Manqui\u00e1n, comenta que a diferencia de las tecnolog\u00edas tradicionales, el desarrollo de la Usach <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cse caracteriza por la utilizaci\u00f3n de materiales de hierro y t\u00e9cnicas de microencapsulaci\u00f3n, que permiten la filtraci\u00f3n y eliminaci\u00f3n efectivas de metales pesados en aguas residuales generadas por industrias mineras y de metales no-ferrosos.
