The quasi-bidimensional nature of these systems gives them unusual properties in the way they deform or break . Understanding their mechanical behavior is important not only at a fundamental level, but also for engineering applications such as electronics, packaging industry, and medical supplies. The emphasis of the laboratory is basic research, although its facilities are also equipped for mechanical analysis of any type of fragile material.
